With so much business being conducted online, opportunities to manipulate the 0s and 1s of the computer are more than some can resist taking advantage of. When is the last time you remember buying a film for a camera or looking for a telephone hanging on the wall? The technologies used in these markets have only recently been eclipsed by a process that is known as a disruptive technology. These once large markets went through decades of sustaining technology that kept them relevant to their market by improving on existing technology. Technology’s hyper-speed development rate has caused markets to change more rapidly than ever before. This fast and constant change allows technology to often get ahead of the development of systems that are complete and secure. But timing is everything! And in today’s marketplace, one cannot hesitate, or one may miss or lose market share. What about the costs of moving so fast?
In this week, we will consider the benefits and risks of e-business. These benefits can offer an organization market share that is only reachable with technology-based business practices. The interconnectivity offered by the Internet has given rise to great concerns about protecting information from potential misuse. It has become so significant that nations have passed laws requiring companies to take great measures to protect personal information. This has caused increased costs to companies and concerns by customers about doing business online. In order to assure market share, the ethics and security measures exercised by companies must be able to support the risks of conducting e-business.
