“Recruitment of a Star” Analysis Instructions
Introduction
All information for this assignment comes from the “Recruitment of a Star” case.
Task
Imagine that after gathering all of the information described in the case, Stephen Connor
has turned to you for help in evaluating the candidates. Further imagine that Stephen has
decided that Rina Shea is no longer a candidate for the position. Consequently, your task is
to make a written recommendation to Stephen as to which of the four outside candidates
would be the best fit for RSH’s senior semiconductor analyst position and should be
extended an offer. You are to use all the information provided in the case.
As justification for your choice, create a roughly 1-page position scorecard (as described in
the “Who” chapter we read). Using that scorecard and the information about the four
candidates in the case, briefly evaluate the degree of fit between the personal and
professional characteristics of each candidate and the job requirements and company
characteristics of RSH. As part of the analysis, please estimate the personality
characteristics (using the Big 5 framework), professional strengths, work interests, and
values of each of the 4 candidates, as well as the culture of RSH. Use a weighted criteria
matrix (as discussed in class) to justify your conclusions.
Finally, as part of your analysis, discuss the impact that hiring your preferred candidate will
have on RSH’s current employees.
You will be required to make your recommendation based on incomplete information about the four candidates and RSH (a written case is limited in the richness of information it can provide). Consequently, it will be very important for you to formally state the assumptions you make about the candidates and the firm. Feel free to use tables and figures to illustrate your reasoning (and be sure to include your scorecard for the senior semiconductor analyst position in your analysis). Please present your analysis and recommendation in a roughly 4-page report (the scorecard is not included in this page allotment).
Evaluation Criteria
Case analysis reports will be evaluated using the following criteria:
Content (50%). Do you cover the most important points in determining person-
organization fit and misfit? Does your analysis accurately reflect the principles discussed in
the readings and in class? Do you correctly use organizational behavior terms and
principles?
Exposition (40%). Have you clearly articulated the justifications for your decisions and
conclusions in the analysis? Have you indicated the assumptions that you made? Have you
provided adequate explanation for why you made those assumptions?
Presentation (10%). Is your report clearly written? Are your arguments easy to follow? Is
your report well organized?
Place an order in 3 easy steps. Takes less than 5 mins.
