The formative exercise requires you to deliver a proposal both for your case and the analytical
framework that will accompany your case. Please structure your answer around the following
headings:
• Case title: a title that indicates clearly the name of the case organisation;
• Rationale: an indication of what the case is about and an explanation of why you have
chosen this organisation as a basis for your Strategic Case Analysis;
• Key decision(s): an articulation of the main decision maker(s) in the case and the key
decisions that they need to make;
• Data collection: an indication of how you propose to collect the data for your case
(including the balance between primary and secondary data, the balance between
quantitative and qualitative data, the main data sources that you intend to use, and a
plan for your data collection), and a statement of whether you think ethical or other
issues will arise in the data collection;
• Analysis approach: a descriiption of the analytical tools and theory that you anticipate
could be used in your summative case analysis work – these can be drawn from any of
the modules you have completed on your MBA and should indicate how you propose
to make sense of the case in order to derive managerial implications and learning
points from the case;
• Career benefit: a statement on why you think this choice of case and analysis will
benefit you in your career;
• Key words: a list of up to 6 key words that describe the main themes you anticipate
being in the case.
