Cognitive Bias and Nudges (assignment is attached with clickthrough links for easy access to articles). Please review the following article on cognitive bias: Embrace Your Cognitive Bias. Please provide comments on several biases throughout the week. Which bias/biases did you find somewhat surprising? Why? Also please provide some examples of nudges and be familiar with defaults. I’d like you to delve a bit more into what is called the confirmation bias. My bud and I have addressed this in one our articles and so please read the following paper: Von Bergen, C. W., & Bressler, M. S. (2018). Confirmation-Bias-in-Entrepreneurship. Journal of Management Policy and Practice, 19(3), 74-84. You probably don’t need to read the entire article but be familiar with the idea of confirmation bias and cuss and discuss it. It’s a real problem and is particularly prevalent in today’s political machinations. Also, related to various cognitive biases is the idea of nudging (discussed briefly on page 93 of your Essentials text) that in many ways takes advantage of our various biases. Here’s a short piece on nudging: Nudging. I love the idea of nudges and when I think of nudging two incidents/situations/studies come to mind: • How did you like the the “Fly in the Urinal” nudge to “help” males? • The figure in the Nudging document is one of my favorites in all of the social sciences and shows the power of defaults (in this case, opting-in vs. opting-out), the granddaddy of all nudges. You marketers in the class should be aware of the nudge protocol. Are the Germans less kind, altruistic, and compassionate than the culturally similar Austrians because they do not donate organs at such a high rate as the Austrians? Find out why or why not. ***Remember to include one external peer-reviewed journal as reference with a link in the article as in previous posts.
