Those who will benefit from this study are women of color, families, communities, hospitals, and doula organizations.Research Question: Can properly trained doulas help women of color deal with pregnancy and the 1-year period afterward in such a way that the mother and the baby will have a greater survival rate (Ferguson, 2017)?Project Title: Properly training doulas to help minority women survive and thrive during pregnancy.Summary of Methodology: The research will be a qualitative project, that seeks to measure the effect of having a doula and the effects of not having a doula for early pregnancy through the child’s first year of life.Description of the type of action research: the research that I will use will be critical action research. A critical interpretive synthesis of studies of minority women who have used doula and those who have not used doulas will be conducted. The search will be for tendencies that are dominant throughout the population.Explanation: For this research project, I will identify minority women who have used doulas, and those that have not used doulas doing their pregnancies. After identification, I will use interviews, questionnaires, and surveys to determine if the doula made a difference. Afterward, I will produce a training manual for doulas.
