What I would like you to write about how the reasons why you put a tattoo on your body may be different from the reasons of a Polynesian (be specific: a Samoan? A Moari from Aotearoa? A Cook Islander? A Marquesan?). How did you pick a design? How would a Polynesian pick a design? How did you decide where to place the tattoo on your body? How would a Polynesian decide? Are there any other differences in how tattooing is treated (by you, your family, the public, or others)?
If you do not have a tattoo, think of someone you know well who has a tattoo, and how they would answer those questions – and then compare that to a traditional Polynesian. Be specific, especially when you use the comparison to yourself or your friend (don’t say something like “some people do/think/say”, say “I chose this design because”, “I do (or do not) have a special relationship to this design”, or “When I was at a family gathering after I first got this tattoo, this is how family members reacted”).
