For this exam you are to answer all three questions with in-depth essays. You are to use the information found in your textbook readings, class lecture notes, and the PowerPoint presentations (please do not bring in outside web resources). Each essay should be around 2-3 pages, double spaced. Each question is designed to draw information from a variety of lecture topics that we covered, so the best answers will show a variety of examples. 1. One of the major concepts that we covered in this section of class was what I referred to as “Hybrid Art,” or works of art that showed a cultural and stylistic blending of European renaissance art and local styles and subjects of art. For this essay you are to discuss this phenomenon. Your answer should consider 4-5 specific examples that were either covered in class or in your textbooks and MUST use examples from differing cultures (ie. India, Africa, Asia, Islam, and the Americas). Don’t just list examples, rather make sure to show how and why they blended traditions and styles.
2. Why were Europeans motivated to engage in overseas travel during the Renaissance era? Obviously, there is not a singular answer to this question, so in this essay I would like for you to analyze the variety of reasons Europeans set sail. Your answer should consider the differing motives, and how they were similar and/or different for various parts of the globe.
