Use as many citations fit, read directions and before starting tell me what artistist you are choosing and I will tell you if it is okay. Use a less know artist from the time period.
Note: Before beginning this project you will have need to have watched the previous lectures on the Renaissance:
Italy in the Fourteenth Century
Italy in the Fifteenth Century
Italy in the Sixteenth Century
The Renaissance in Northern Europe
As you will see, the Renaissance has an incredible amount of important artists, such as Giotto, Masaccio, Michelangelo and Jan van Eyck. Some of our most important artistic techniques, such as Linear Perspective and Chiaroscuro are invented during this era. But everything cannot fit within four hours of lectures.
For this assessment, I would like you to do more in-depth research on the Renaissance and present an artist that was NOT mentioned in the lecture, but you think I should add. Write a one-page essay (minimum, with a maximum of a page and a half) presenting an argument as to the importance of the artist you chose. Back up your choice with information from your research. You should also include an image of a particular artwork you want me to add to represent the artist. Some of your paper should be about that artwork. You need to use a minimum of two sources (maximum three). I am imagining your submission to be a total of two-pages. The first page presenting your artist, artwork, and argument as to why they should be included in the lecture. The second page contains the sources you used as well as an image of the artwork that you think is a good representation of the artist’s work.
BIGGEST MISTAKES STUDENTS MAKE:
Using an artist that was already in the lecture: This shows the student did not watch the lecture or read the directions. This can be excused if it happens to be an artist barely mentioned in the lectures, but if you write a paper on Leonardo da Vinci and tell me I should add the Mona Lisa to my lecture, that is an issue.
Not responding to the prompt: Your paper should literally begin with…”The artist I am suggesting you add to your lecture is….” Do not write a biographical account of the artist. It is fine to include some biography, but this is an argumentative/persuasive research paper. Not using citations: This is a research paper and your research needs to be shown. We do this through the use of citations. Anytime where you have used specific facts or quotes from a source, they need to be accompanied by a citation.
All the citations revolve around quotes: Don’t just stick in quotes from sources to show you went to a website or opened a book. Quotes should fit neatly into your argument. Quotes are in someone else’s tone/cadence and can take a reader quickly out of your paper. Many times it is simpler to paraphrase what the author wrote in your own words and cite the sentence. PAPER FORMAT:
Upper left hand corner of the paper should have (single-spaced).
Your name
Research Paper Skip two lines and begin your paper…do not give your paper a title.
Double Spaced 1” Margins

10-point font.
Make sure to use paragraphs…indent them using the tab key…do not add extra spaces between paragraphs.
Do not use slang in academic writing (for example, the word is legitimate, not legit).
MLA or Chicago Style citations preferred.
Don’t forget to proofread your paper! Grammar and spelling count, especially on this project as it helps to fulfill the General Education Writing Requirement for this course!
