For this week’s interactive assignment, I would like you to use the new theory you learned this week, the Extended Parallel Processing Model, to analyze the two public service announcements (PSAs) in the last leture video. Look for severity, susceptibility, response efficacy, and self-efficacy while you are watching the two video clips. Think about whether and how these four elements are used in the design of the PSAs. And predict whether the two PSAs would achieve the desired goals (i.e., persuade people to stop smoking or wearing masks etc). You can use the available course materials to help you get started in your thinking. Once you have an idea, begin this assignment. Here’s how: 1. Please analyze the “Stop Smoking PSA from CDC (Links to an external site.) ” by answering the following questions. (Due Wednesday)
* Does the PSA use any of the four components of EPPM (i.e., severity, susceptibility, response efficacy, self-efficacy)? * If so, how is each of the components used in the PSA?
* Do you think the PSA is effective in terms of persuasing people to stop smoking? Please use the EPPM to support your prediction rather than based on your own preference. 2. Please analyze the “COVID Measures PSA from CDC (Links to an external site.) ” by answering the following questions. (Due Wednesday)
* Does the PSA use any of the four components of EPPM (i.e., severity, susceptibility, response efficacy, self-efficacy)? * If so, how is each of the components used in the PSA?
* Would you predict the PSA to be effective in terms of persuading people to wear a mask, get a vaccine, etc? Please use the EPPM to support your prediction rather than based on your own preference. 3. Read your group members’ position statements and provide a response to at least 2 of them. (Due Friday)
* Please reply to one group member who analyzes the same PSA as you and another group member who analyzes the different one. You can share your different analyses or prediction. You can also share similar thoughts. * In any case, these responses should be thoughtful few sentences at least and based on the EPPM. Simplying replying you like their analysis or something similar will not get full credits.
