Assignment:
For this assignment select a business you would like to operate in the future, or perhaps the business you currently work in. It could be anything from a small coffee shop to a large multi-national manufacturing company. The purpose of this assignment is to use Porter’s Five Forces Model, Three Generic Strategies and Value Chain Analysis to identify competitive forces within the industry and how to combat them.
Answer each question in a separate paragraph identified by the question number.
Questions to be Answered:
1. Briefly describe your business. Using Porter’s Five Forces Model write an analysis of buyer power and supplier power for your business. For each of these two forces state if you believe they are high or low. Be sure to discuss how you could combat the competition with strategies such as switching costs and loyalty programs.
2. Write an analysis of rivalry, entry barriers, and the threat of substitute products for your business, using Porter’s Five Forces Model. Be sure to discuss how you could combat the competition with strategies such as product differentiation.
3. Describe which of Porter’s Three Generic Strategies you would use for your business. Be sure to describe the details of how you will implement this strategy and how it will help you create a competitive advantage in your industry
4. Using Porter’s Value Chain Analysis identify the Primary value activities (processes) and any Support value activities which add value to your business.
