This is for the ‘research methodology’ section my business dissertation, with specific focus on research philosophy. For some background information – The main paper is looking at the effect of employee engagement on growth in businesses, although that won’t need to be referenced much. The research is based on data collected from human interviews with employees and owners of various small businesses, so please bear this in mind. I have broken the piece down into smaller sections below, with specific details/instructions on each one. The word count is as a guide, it doesn’t need to be exact. Research Philosophy 1 – General Research Philosophy: (approx. 300 words) Demonstrate understanding of different research philosophies and their importance, use models were possible. A ‘pragmatist philosophy’ will be used in the actual research, so please mention this. 2 – Ontological (approx. 350 words) Discuss what ontological philosophy is, then go into detail on ‘Objectivism’ and ‘Subjectivism’ as topics. The research will later choose objective approach, so favour that one and say why. 3 – Epistemological (approx. 350 words) Similar to number 2, discuss what epistemology is and then go into detail on ‘Positivism’ and ‘Interpretivism’ as topics. The research will later choose a positive approach, so favour that one and say why. 4 – Brief discussion about why a pragmatist/objective/positive approach may be best, when collecting qualitative date via interviews with people. (200 words) 5 – Research Approach: Discuss/explain the meanings of inductive, deductive and abductive approaches. Use reference/models where appropriate. This research will use an inductive method, please say why that may be best. (500 words) 6 – Explain what ‘Mono’ and ‘Mixed’ research methods are, with some definitions. Consider strengths and limitations of both. This research will use mono, so provide justification as to why (again, doesn’t need to be specific to my topic, just qualitive/interview-based research in general) (300 words) 7 – Explain what quantitative and qualitative research are. Add some rational why qualitative is better in this case (re subjective data gathered from interviewees). Add in any models that might be relevant. (500 words)
