Truly accessible meaning the accessibility of the audition room, the rehearsal spaces, backstage space, etc.
I wan’t this to be focused on disabilities in theatre and how, traditionally, people with disabilities are not cast. Also, I would love it to softly touch the topic on social class and how the industry is not reachable due to generational poverty. This paper can include, gender issues, diversity issues, body issues, etc.
In the past 10 years, Broadway has made strides to become a more inclusive, diverse industry. The business has been made more aware of the issues created when they focus on that of white, cisgendered, abled and heterosexual voices, and they have done major work in resolving these decades old issues. However, has the work truly been done, or have we only been handed a painted over industry that still works on the old beliefs at hand…..
