College experience analysis through the strategic management lens:
The college experience can be considered a process embedded in different environments with short & long-term goals, strategies to achieve those goals, resources to manage, etc., that requires proper strategic management to succeed (i.e., achieve goals). Since the day you decided to go to college, you have been the Chief Executive Officer of your college education process. In this assignment, you will analyze your management of this process through a strategic management lens.
Considering the three stages of a strategic management process, in 4 full pages respond to the following questions (Q1, Q2):
Stage 1: strategic planning: consider “PESTEL framework and Porter’s competitive forces model” in your analyses to relate your explanations to the strategic management process.
Stage 2: strategy implementation/execution.
Stage 3: evaluation and revisions.
Q1. With the help strategic management frameworks or concepts, explain and justify what specific stage and what aspect of it you managed (relatively) well and in what stage you made mistakes (you did poorly)? For instance, if you identified that you managed your
college experience process poorly in “external analysis” (stage 1: strategic planning stage), you should use your knowledge (which is related to external analysis like PESTEL framework and PORTER’S COMPETITIVE FORCES MODEL) to effectively pinpoint the most relevant concept/framework from this chapter and apply it to the analysis of your decision. The same logic applies to your response to Q2.
In developing your response, consider your overall college experience, not your experience in a specific course.
Q2. How would you manage the process differently if you had an opportunity to do it all over again? Build your response on your answer to Q1 and explain it based on strategic management logic and language. Considering the complexity of this process, it is not believable if you say you would do everything the same way again.
