Culture influences how we view science and therefore the types of policies we enact and practices we carry out. In order to both understand science and culture more thoroughly, you will chose a scientific topic of interest to you and interview someone from a different cultural background on that topic. Example topics could include climate change, vaccines, endangered species, sexually transmitted diseases, and many more.
You will conduct the interview sometime in the latter half of the semester. Please check your questions for the interview with me before conducting it. Finally, you will write a final paper for the class summarizing the interview and analyzing how their culture might influence their opinion. The paper should be at least 5 pages, not including references (APA format). The thesis for this paper will be: ___________________ person’s culture does/does not influence their views on __________________ issue. Supporting your thesis will involve a description of the issue at hand as well as research to support your claims about cultural views.
