Aim: The aim of this research is to understand organisational change from the perspective of those who work in the health service, and in particular how their personal biographies may influence approaches and responses to change. Background: The NHS is at a turning point within its history. The prevalence of technology and innovative methods of practice are all around us. However, research shows that the public sector generally, and the NHS specifically, struggles to change and innovate at the same pace as the private sector. Objectives: 1. To differentiate between institution and individual attitudes to change (Institutional logic vs individual attitudes to change) 2. To understand the clinicians background and influence upon change attitudes 3. To explore the impact of change upon the medical profession and how to improve how change and innovation is undertaken within healthcare The researcher will be undertaking both semi structured interviews and open life history interviews. The Semi structured part of the interviews will be undertaken where time is limited. All interviews are to be recorded and a transcript produced. (I obviously havent done these yet and was hoping that we could create some questions for the semi structured interviews and fabricate answers?) There is a structure required by the Management school = Intro – 1000, Literature review 2500 Research Design / Methodology 1500 Findings and analysis 3000 Discussion 2000 Reflections 700 Conclusion and recommendation 1250 There are some theories and principles i would like to come out of the dissertation such as ‘Institutional logics and Institutional complexity, notion of competing logics from senior medical consultants and disruptive innovator. Literature from Dr Tracey Coule, Dr Beth Patmore, etc. I have attached the essay that was a precursor to this dissertation proposal and it would be great if this could set the basis of the dissertation and some of the references used found their way into the Lit review.
