History of business:
During the 2008 financial meltdown, I was working as a production manager who was laid off due to the business going bankrupt. After which point, I started commercial fishing for wild golden shiners to supplement my income while working a part time job at a convenience store until I figured out my next step for a career. After a couple of seasons of catching bait, I focused all my energy and effort into growing what was vastly becoming a dying nitch market in the guide/bass industry. I caught bait when needed for whoever needed it, and slowly grew my own wholesale accounts within my area in central Fl. In 2013, I officially opened J&D live bait, also DBA Westlake bait and haven’t look back since. For the past 10 years we have grown into being the only live bait wholesalers in town and the area, and service bass guides mostly who make up most of our business, the others being local fish farms who use our bait to feed their tropical fish in order to sell to the public consumer market for at home aquariums. In summary, we are truly a mom and pop small bait shop, no employees (unless the kids want to work for us when they get older). We focus only on live bait wholesale, and do not plan to expand into anything else in the near future.
