With your chosen organism you will need to write a paper. Your paper needs to contain the following categories and supply the information outlined and should follow the general structure of content listed below:
Introduction
Include Genus and species name of your organism. For example, the wolf’s scientific name is Canis lupus. Canus is the Genus and Canus lupis is the species (the species is ALWAYS a binomial name – a 2 word name).
Include pertinent information that describes your organism.
Biome
In which biome does your organism live? (many of the organisms live in expansive biomes but use the area listed for you assignment; it will be one of the four I visited)
Give the location, average yearly rainfall, 3 examples of vegetation, and 5 animals found in the biome.
What adaptations does your organism have that makes it suited to live in this biome?
Is your organism a native species or an introduced species?
Interactions
Is your organism a predator or prey? If a predator, upon what does it feed? If a prey, what defenses does it possess? **If it is neither a predator or prey, how does it get food?
What is the rate of growth for your organism? Is r-selected or k-selected?
Does it have any competitors? If so, describe them.
Is it part of a symbiotic relationship, if so, describe it.
Is it an autotroph or a heterotroph? If it is a heterotroph, describe whether it is an herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore.
Is it a member of a food chain? (or food web) Give a description of its interactions within this food chain.
Contributions:
Is your organism involved in chemical cycling (water, carbon, nitrogen)? If so, describe in detail the role it plays. (at a minimum they should all be involved in carbon cycling)
Does your organism play a pivotal role in its environment? Is it a keystone species? How would the environment be changed if this organism were to become extinct? Would we, as human beings, be impacted?
Required Length and Originality:
Must be at least 2 pages (double-spaced, 12 font). Use APA format.
