This is a 8 part question. We all know the importance of food labels, yet they are seldom looked at closely, if even at all. Sometimes it is confusing on how to read them, other times individuals figure they “know enough”. For this assignment, you will pick one of your favorite meals (an being completely honest with yourself), answer the following questions: Example: Pasta! Everybody loves pasta! I love Chicken Scampi. It’s full of grilled chicken, sauteed vegetables, a deliciously creamy sauce and linguine pasta noodles. As a runner I used to think this was a nice healthy balance: grilled chicken, vegetables and enough pasta for a proper carb load in order to fuel for a long run the next day. But not if I was eating way more than the proper portion size, and eating less vegetable than I gave myself credit for. What meal did you chose? Explain it just in case someone in the class does not know what it is. (how is it prepared, what is it made of, etc) Do/did you know the actual serving size? What is the serving size? Is it a healthy meal or did you just think it was healthy? After looking at the proper serving size on the food label and comparing it to what you consumed, how many more servings over the serving size did you eat? How many calories total did you end up consuming? Based on the actual number of servings you ate, what was the total amount of Fat, Sugar, and Carbohydrates consumed? How far over the limit where you on the recommended amounts for Fat, Sugar and Carbohydrates? Knowing this information, how do you think this will change the way you look at food labels and food consumption?
