Censorship with Ai Weiwei
In 1995, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei photographed himself as he picked up a 2000-year-old urn and let it smash to the ground. If we’re appalled when cultural heritage is destroyed in the name of god and state, how can we possibly defend Ai’s action?
How can we buy a ticket to see photos of the event in a museum?
How can those photos sell for over a million dollars?
How can this man be one of the most renowned artists of our time?
How did his Art make him the most dangerous man in China?
This is the case for Ai Weiwei. Read the New York Times article attached and watch the short video on Ai Weiwei before answering the questions below.

What are China’s reasons to censor Ai Weiwei and what are your thoughts on those reasons?
Describe what Weiwei was trying to do with the façade of Haus der Kunst museum in Munich.
Search Google for another artist or artwork that was censored by either the media, a governing body or a religious group. Describe the argument for or against the work and include a photo on the photo page.
