I’m struggling with this class assignment of writing a brief story for a brand. If you do a good job, I may hire you for additional projects.
Descriiption:
Now it’s time to craft the brand beginnings story for your new side hustle client. Continue to research and uncover interesting factoids about your creative services organization or product company. It’s also time to start investigating their competition’s stories — what are your competitive differences? What makes them (or you) unique? Cool? Newsworthy? Engaging?
Your client will likely have multiple stories to pick and tell. From characters (owner stories, their client stories, their employee stories); to story arcs (startup history — personal and/or organizational); conflicts (startup, organizational, personal, legal); to business success stories.
Remember: Most great brand storytelling creates a strong emotional connection between the brand, the target, and the org mission.
Like all brand stories, it’s imperative to have a clearly defined objective before you start writing. Is your goal Awareness (know something), Action (do something), or Attitude (believe something)? When the reader is done with your story, how do you want them to feel? Act? Tell them!
Ponder
Identify and ‘firm’ your heritage story.
Identify your organization’s core values.
Identify your target’s core values.
Identify a person to be your story’s ‘character.’
Draft
Consider the various elements of your chosen organization: Does it align with your personal beliefs? What are your organization’s core values? Who is their target market?
Try writing from different perspectives:
1. You as CEO – a first person brand story.
2. You as a reporter – a third person perspective.
3. Focus on a single brand core value (or product attribute).
4. Focus on a location.
5. Lead with a question.
Maybe try to follow the plot line of Six Main Arcs?
Rags to Riches
Riches to Rags
Fall then Rise
Rise then Fall
Fall then Rise then Fall
Rise then Fall then Rise
My suggestions:
Consider writing about a business that sells crystals and jewels. Concentrate on the Attitude category – believe in something. They possess metaphysical characteristics that benefit people. Begin the paragraph with a question that will pique the reader’s interest. Perhaps write it in the third person, as if you were a reporter. A brief descriiption of the company, its founder and/or CEO, and its morals/mission. And add, unlike other gem stone businesses, the product must be responsibly sourced. It is what distinguishes this company from the competition. If this concept doesn’t sit well with you, try another that is just as compelling and inspiring.
Write Abundantly — Edit Brutally. Develop a short (100-200 word) story about the brand. As you construct your draft versions, try to approach your story from multiple angles (see above), then choose the one that tells the most engaging story for your target audience. Be honest and authentic. Speak truth and be credible.
Format:
BRAND STORY 1
Company Name
Product Name
Product USP
Here’s a great example submitted by a peer:
