In the article “Managing Oneself,” author Peter F. Drucker states that “What one does well – even very well and successfully – may not fit with one’s value system”. How do your values play a role in the groups, organizations, or career opportunities you decide to be a part of? Is it important for your values to be aligned to that of that particular organization? Deanna Jackson I think that a person’s values play in role in the organizations, groups, and career opportunities that they take part in, in that they would most likely want their value system to match up with said places. Your values may affect what organizations or groups that you support. For example if a person is vegan they may not want to support a company or organization that funds slaughter houses, or they may only donate to animal shelters that have a high adoption rate. I think that it is important that the values a person holds dear correlate to that particular organization, because it could damage them psychologically if they feel that they are never holding true to their values. However, I also think that it is important to be able to handle a diverse environment (as well as to be able to interact with people who do not share your values/viewpoints). In the article, the importance of staying mentally alert is mentioned. I agree that it is important to do so. Mental awareness can help us determine if it would be a good decision to join an organization or start a new career path. It can help us implement the steps that follow. I think that it can relate to one’s overall purpose by being what they have wanted to do with their lives for as long as they can remember. I believe this can also take the form of hobbies turning into careers and/or businesses.
