Discourse Memo FLEX – When two texts are assigned for a given class lecture, your writing assignment becomes a Discourse Memo FLEX. This means that you are to compose a discourse memo that addresses each of the three points but engages with both texts simultaneously. Write a memo that puts the texts in conversation by addressing the three points above—author, audience, and argument—for each text, and also consider similarities and differences across the texts (in tandem). These pairings have been organized to draw out debates that are central to the discipline of contemporary art history. 6 FLEXES have been assigned. Your lowest graded FLEX will be dropped at the end of the semester.
Discourse Memo FLEXES will be graded on an 8-pt scale. There are 5 throughout the semester. Each will be assessed for clarity, focus, and completion, according to the following rubric:
