The writer to answer the 6 questions respectively in 3 pages, each question must be at least half a page long.
1. Promoting Effective Communication
Instructions:
Effective communication involves many components. We typically think of communication in terms of spoken words but often the most powerful messages are those that are unspoken. Please watch the “Power of Words” video.
How did this video demonstrate the power of nonverbal communication studied in Unit 3?
Describe an experience you had where you needed to rely on nonverbal communication to get an important point across. What did you find most challenging?
How could a video like this promote the need for effective communication?
How do facial cues and body language contribute to getting your message across? What examples did you see in the video?
How can ineffective communication create or support stereotypes? Othering?
Did this video change your core understanding of dialogue?

2. Perspectives: The Role of First-Person Narrative
Instructions:
Each of us has a unique perspective on the world around us and on ourselves. Likewise, each of us has something about our ‘physical’ selves that we are not completely satisfied with which could limit our perspective or hinder the power of our own first-person narrative. Often, we will try to hide that part of our physical selves which means our narrative is not fully complete. Please watch the video called Body Size which gives fresh insights into one of the types of body image challenges.

In your initial post, please address the following:
• How does point of view play a role in the personal narratives of those in the video? Could their stories have been told as effectively from a third person perspective? Defend your position.
• Find and discuss one literary or poetic term that you found demonstrated within the video.
• In your view, do body size issues rob the broader human community of valuable insights and perspectives? How might we combat the problem?
• In a separate paragraph, describe a ‘body image’ experience you had (size, height, beards, tattoos, etc.) where you felt unaccepted.
3. Through the Arts
Instructions:
The video below provides a first-person narrative of a young couple’s passion for the arts as they transform their community from an ‘arts’ desert to an ‘arts’ showcase providing a venue for activist musicians to find audiences they might never otherwise connect with. Please watch the video called Building Community through the arts which demonstrates how important every single individual can be in building a deep sense of community.

• Why might musicians use their music to raise awareness and consciousness about different social issues? In your response please use at least one example (from the video, from your own community or from a different resource) in order to illustrate your points.
• Artists and musicians often choose to utilize public spaces. Why might a song, focused on a social justice issue, be more effective in public spaces rather than in a private home turned music venue? Do you think there would be fewer or more restrictions on the types of messages when presented in the public forum? Defend your position.
• Benoit and Elaine are powerful examples of commu‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌nity building. In a separate paragraph describe a venue you would create if given the chance. What form of the arts would you focus on (dance, music, reading poetry, etc.) and what themes, social justice issues, or community issues would you present at the grand opening? Explain your choice.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
4. Diversity in the Workplace
Instructions:
In the content of this unit, you have explored and discovered many aspects of diversity in the workplace. The importance of companies having an understanding of diversity and its impact on all facets of the culture of that company are key factors in ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace environment. With that in mind please address the following prompts in your discussion this week.
• What are the challenges when an organization practice valuing diversity and inclusion?
• Identity three specific challenges that organizations might face and create a strategy on how they can be overcome.
• Is it the responsibility of the employer to ensure a work environment which is bias-free and inclusive for all employees? If not, whose responsibility would it be? Defend your choice.
• How can your potential strategy be developed to increase diversity and inclusion within the workplace? What tools might help you get the job done?
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
5. Story and Voice
Instructions:
The first-person narrative is a powerful tool not only to give a person voice but also to present powerful social justice, environmental, or cultural messages to the audience. The story is a powerful testimony to creating positives out of negatives, to taking physical challenges and turning them into strengths, to serving one community in order to benefit the greater community. Watch the video Man and Beast by Alan Rabinowitz being aware of how the presentation connects to topics 1, 2, and 3.

Please address the following:
• What literary elements did you find in this story (tone, setting, theme, etc.) How did these impact your understanding of voice?
• The video used multiple elements of storytelling. Discuss one or more ‘tips’ from Topic 3 that you found represented in the video.
• What aspect of your own story would you like to give voice? How might you connect that to the needs of your community (neighborhood, church/mosque/temple/community group, workplace, etc.)?
• In a separate paragraph tell us the story of how you became a part of the Herzing University community.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
6. Reflection
Instructions
Please respond to the following questions based upon these course objectives:
• Identify harmful stereotypes used to marginalize groups of people.
• Examine the impact of inequality among groups of people.
• Analyze historical and contemporary cultural texts related to “othering.”
Please answer the following questions with supporting examples and full explanations.
• For each of the learning objectives, provide an analysis of how the course supported each objective.

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ with citations and references in APA format.
