In an ideal society where all employees were treated equally and fairly, there would be no need for employment laws. However, because discrimination and other corrupt practices do occur in business, protection under the law is necessary. The United States, for example, has established laws that prevent employers from discriminating against employees based on a number of characteristics, including race, gender, and age. There are other laws that govern the provision of accessible work accommodations for individuals with disabilities. As needs arise, additional laws may be passed, often as a result of significant court cases involving inequalities in business environments. These laws are intended not only to protect employees but the organizations as well.
For this week’s Discussion, you will choose examples of workplace violations and share your perspectives on how those violations should be handled, including how the law protects the organization when violations occur.
Post a 150- to 225-word (2- to 3-paragraph) explanation of your selected employment law example that includes a workplace violation. In your explanation, do the following:
Identify any additional insight you gained into the area of employment law involved in the violation that you chose.
Explain how you might have handled the situation if you were a manager or leader in the organization.
Describe how the law can protect an organization in cases where violations occur.
Include references to a minimum of two scholarly sources to support your response.
