A rite of passage is any life cycle rite that marks a person’s or group’s transition from one social state to another. Rituals are often part of these rites and they carry unique symbolism and meaning. Think about a rite of passage that have either witnessed first hand or participated in directly. How was the rite of passage tied to culture, traditions, ethnicity, backgrounds, religion, etc…? What about the physical landscape…was there a connection? How was the rite of passage ‘performed’- what was the process from start to finish? Think about this culturally. Was there food, music, clothing, art, language, or other cultural elements in this rite of passage? What were they? Talk in depth about the rituals. What was the meaning behind them? What was your interpretation of this rite of passage?
Submissions should be a minimum of four (4) pages. They do not need to be in MLA or APA format. These are response papers, but you are welcome to use external resources to supplement your argument.
