a) Don’t try to expose every single idea in the chapters or in the lessons, which is impossible anyway. Extract only the main ideas. If you use quotations from books, indicate the page number using the MLA style (see “Format of the Papers” below). Don’t be lost by too many details. For the first two papers, read each chapter first as if you were reading a novel, thus, you form a global idea of its content. Read it again while taking notes: write a sentence, for example, to summarize each paragraph.
In your summary, you cannot skip a whole chapter, saying that there is nothing important in it. The summaries should be approximatively proportionate to the chapters.
For the third paper, take notes from each slide, then write your own global synthesis.
b) Use a logical sequence of ideas. You don’t have to follow the same sequence of the book or the lessons. Feel free to group the important ideas differently to better structure your text.
c) The summary should prove that you understood the text or the lessons. Paraphrasing, or worse, copying sentences from each paragraph or each lesson will not only result in a very low mark, it might also lead to accusations of plagiarism with serious consequences on your result in this course and in your academic file.
d) Write the number and the title of each chapter and each lesson.
Clarity (33% of the grade)
It is about how easily and clearly your reader understands your ideas. Here are some elements playing an important role in making a text clear:
a) clarity of each sentence
b) correct punctuation

Even though no marks would be lost for grammatical and syntaxial errors per se, accumulating such errors affects the understanding of the text and undermines the clarity of your ideas. If a text is very difficult to understand because of the poor writing skills, the reader will have difficulty assuming you understood the content; a good content closely depends on syntaxial and grammatical correctness.
