FINAL EXAM
The FINAL EXAM consists of two parts. PART I consists of answering all the questions on one topic: either the seventh topic on Modernity and Progress comes to Texas 1876-1920 or the ninth topic Texas in the Age of Globalization 1939-present for 70 points; and Part II consist of fully identifying, describing, and elaborating on TWO KEY TERMS from the eight topic on Texas during Crises and Reforms 1890-1939 for 30 points (15 points each key term).
The answers to the questions and key terms must be TYPED, using a regular font (Times New Roman, 12), double-spaced, page numbered, with a cover page with your student information and class number. The answers for PART I alone must contain a minimum of 5 FULL pages in length and there are no limits as to the maximum pages; for the key terms of PART II, there are no limits to the number of pages, just answer the terms as fully as possible.
As a whole, the entire work MUST CONTAIN ONLY LECTURE-MATERIAL (so no internet, online encyclopedia material will be allowed!). Finally, the answers to Part I and II must be saved in a single file (separated by headings, of course), and must be saved on Word or PDF file only (since Blackboard might not open other applications) and the file must be submitted on the FINAL EXAM upload tab on Blackboard by Tuesday, May 10th, 2022.
The exam will be graded on three basic factors:
1) ORGANIZATION (try answering the questions in the order presented without having to write the question and answer, just write a narrative that will answer these questions)
2) ANALYSIS (it is important not only to describe historical events, but also to explain how and why these events take place; in this case, students should include in their analysis the role that ideas, technology, and the environment have played in shaping the history of human cultures and societies).
3) FACTS (Provide specific information about the time and place of historical events, as well as specific examples of the ideas, beliefs, concepts, and terms presented in the lectures- for example, if you are discussing the Counter-Culture Revolution, provide specific detailed information about the groups that participated in this movement as we as their ideas and actions that transformed American culture; or, if you are discussing the Civil Rights Movement, provide factual information about the groups that participated and the Civil Rights legislation that got passed and implemented).

TOPIC # 7- Modernity & Progress comes to Texas, 1876-1920
Provide a thorough assessment of the coming of modernity and progress to the state of Texas from 1876 to 1920. First, provide a detailed description of the definition and meaning of Modernity. Here, it is vital that you thoroughly explain the ideas and values of Modernity and how these have given rise to a totally new society. Second, provide a detailed assessment of how Texas attempted to modernize the state through the development of modern transportation systems and a commercial-industrial economy and society. Here, it is vital to identify and fully describe the changes taking place in agriculture, industry, and urban living.
Topic # 9 Texas in the Age of Globalization, 1939-present
Provide a thorough assessment of Texas in the Age of Globalization from 1939 to the present. First, define and describe the major characteristics of the phenomenon of Globalization, and explain how these have radically altered the traditional ways of life of the peoples of Texas. Second, provide a detailed assessment of how Texas entered the age of globalization at the time of World War II and how the economy, society, and culture of the state transformed and modernized in the post-war years. Third, explain the Civil Rights movement in Texas by paying attention to a) the experience of minorities in Texas such as women, Mexicans and African Americans; b) the legislation that aimed to create a more equitable society; and c) the effects that the civil rights legislation had on party politics in Texas. Fourth, describe the specific economic and social changes that have transpired since 1986 which has given rise to a New Texas.
