So first off, your introduction indicates that you are focusing on Realism, the movement. Realism was an artistic movement that emerged in France in the 1840s, around the 1848 Revolution. Michelangelo and Raphael, though were from the Italian Renaissance – the 1500’s. Sir John Everett Millais, was an English painter and illustrator who was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite movement in the late 1800’s. So your artists are not supporting your thee of the Realism movement. Now you could make adjustments and instead show how the Pre-Raphaelites were influenced by the earlier Renaissance artists. In this case I’d probably select one more Pre-Raphaelite artist and cut one of the Renaissance artists – depending on which one you feel had the greatest influence on the later Pre-Raphaelite artists. In your introdcution, make sure to include historic details, dates, regions, quotes etc. to provide historic context leading to your thesis statement. Your statement is working pretty well, but will need adjusting as you clarify your topic. Is this about realism in the human form, or is it about communicating political and social values? You will need to clarify this. I suggest meeting with Alexandra, the writing tutor, to help you sort this out.
In your final paper make sure your three comparisons address at least five elements of design and composition – and directly compare each work of art to the other – addressing each element for both. Also, in your final be sure to include a clear statement of what you would like viewers of your exhibit to learn, understand, or appreciate about these works or about the common theme from viewing it. This would work well at the end, as a conclusion. Please read my comments in the rubric.
