Each nephron is composed of a renal corpuscle and renal tubule, and each part is involved in specific processes that result in urine formation. The renal corpuscle is composed of the Bowman’s capsule and glomerulus, which are the fenestrated capillaries that filter the blood plasma. The renal tubule is composed of the proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, and distal convoluted tubule, and it functions to reabsorb and secrete molecules as the filtrate passes through the tubule.
Normal nephron function will allow the kidneys to do the following:
Regulate blood-ionic composition
Regulate blood pH
Regulate blood volume
