The notion of an international commitment to human rights was vaguely held in the early 20th century. However, WWII changed everything and made human rights the most competing norm in our century. Many scholars, lawyers, and politicians around the world, like Eleanor Roosevelt, campaigned for the adaptation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948.
