For this assignment, you have submission options. However, for this assignment, you will also need to include a sketch of your chosen artwork regardless of the selected option. You will also need to make notes within the sketch about art elements such as color and texture.
You will NOT be graded on your drawing skills for this sketch! This is just a perceptual exercise to help you really see the details of your chosen work of art. The sketching process helps you see the work on a deeper level and will make the writing process much easier. In other words, sketch everything you see, but don’t worry if it “looks good” when you’re done.
Directions
Sketch the chosen piece of artwork.
Next to your sketch, include all the caption information about your chosen artwork: artist, title, medium, dimensions and year.
List everything you see, no matter how trivial or obvious. Do not assume that everyone sees what you see. Follow the example in Module 02 Lecture, “Exercise in Looking.”
List all the questions you have about the artwork. Whatever comes to mind. The questions can be about the items that you see (e.g., “What does the candle represent?”), or they can be about the artwork in general (e.g., “Why is the painting shades of blue instead of normal colors?”). There is no need to find the answers yet—simply focus on asking good questions.
Submission Options
You have choice when it comes to submitting your assignment. Choose one of the following formats:
Option #1, Write: Submit one Word document (DOCX) that includes a SKETCH of your chosen artwork, along with your written responses to the directions.
Option #2, Sketch: Draw simple but clear SKETCH of your chosen artwork. On the same page as the sketch, include your handwritten responses to the directions. Submit your sketch as a PDF file that is clear and easy to read.
Option #3, Design: Create an infographic for your chosen artwork. Each infographic must include a SKETCH of your artwork, along with your written responses to the directions. Submit your infographic as a PDF file that is clear and easy to read.
Option #4, Video: Create a video for your chosen artwork. Your video must include a SKETCH of your chosen object, along with your verbal responses to the directions. Submit a link (URL) to view your finished video.
