Choose a current academic issue/debate that interests you enough to research for the rest of the course. You first need to choose an issue that will hold your interest for a full semester and will sustain semester-long research. Remember to avoid “red button” issues such as abortion, gun control, and conspiracy theories that continue to create ongoing controversy and communities continue to debate without resolution. Topic should be “academic” in nature and appropriate for inclusion in peer-reviewed academic, arts, medical, science, and/or business journals. This will require a bit of research as you want to make sure that your issue is viable for this project. Remember, this project is about presenting academic arguments rather than just disagreeing with something. To that end, you need two current (no older than 2020) sources that hold opposing positions on your issue. If you cannot find that, then you might want to review “Questions to Think About” in week 3. To earn credit on this assignment, you are required to use the form provided next. Current issues in your specific area of study are often fruitful issues. For this assignment, you will also need to create full MLA citations and annotations for those two opposing sources. For this course, all assignments, citations, etc, must be in MLA format.
