Follow the PROM. This is step one of the three steps involved in the Competency Development Plan assignment (before you begin step one, please see the syllabus under the heading “course deliverables” for an overview of all the steps involved in this assignment).
For this step;
Review the SHRM competency Model and
Download the “SHRM Competency Development Plan” pdf document
Complete the SHRM Competency Development Plan (At least three proficiency development activities must be identified for each competency) and upload it to D2L. I have provided a sample development plan for your reference but please do not blindly copy the same information to your own plan. I’m providing it to you so that you can see what a development plan looks like.
NOTES:
Step 3 of this assignment requires you to complete at least one activity for three competency areas so be sure to include one activity for each competency that you can realistically complete during this class time-frame.
For this assignment, you can take the perspective of your current/former position or a career that you plan to pursue once you graduate. Ideally it’s within the HR profession but does not necessarily have to be because HR knowledge and expertise will be valuable in other professions as well. Once you have identified the career/position, you can list relevant organizational goals (from the organization’s perspective – you can pick generic goals, they don’t have to be specific to a particular company) and then list your own career goals that are aligned with the organizational goals. Then, you have to list at least 3 activities for each competency that will help you develop the competency. I recommend looking at the sample form I’ve provided to get an idea of how to complete this exercise.
Once you download and enter your information to the blank pdf document, be sure to select “save as” and save it as a pdf document. Before uploading to the assignment folder, double check the document to confirm that the information you entered is saved in the document. The document should allow you to save what you enter. If it doesn’t work, it may be something to do with the pdf software you’re using or other technical setting on your computer. If you’re having trouble saving the information electronically, I’m okay if you print the form and hand-write the information (as long as it is clearly written and I am able to read it). You can then scan it and upload it to the D2L assignment folder. If you don’t have a scanner, there are free scanning apps like “office lens” that you can download to your phone and use to scan the document.
